- This standard applies to instruments (sound level meters) that measure sound pressure levels with a certain frequency weighting and time weighting. This standard is the technical basis for the design, production and use of sound level meters, and is also the basis for formulating product standards for various types of sound level meters. This standard is formulated with reference to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 651 "Sound Level Meter" standard.
