Scope: This standard specifies the microscopic evaluation method for non-metallic inclusions in rolled or forged steel products with a compression ratio greater than or equal to 3 using standard diagrams. This method is widely used in the assessment of the suitability of steel for a given application. However, due to the influence of the test personnel, it is difficult to reproduce the test results even with a large number of samples, so this method should be used with caution. This standard also provides an image analysis method for the determination of non-metallic inclusions (see Appendix D).
