This part of GB/T 2889 defines the basic symbols used in the field of sliding bearings, and also defines additional symbols used as superscripts or subscripts. The symbol system of sliding bearings is composed of Latin letters, Greek letters, Arabic numerals and other symbols (such as: points, commas, horizontal lines or asterisks). The simplest symbols are represented by only basic symbols, and complex symbols are basic symbols plus subscripts and superscripts (additional symbols). From the perspective of international applicability, all basic symbols and additional symbols are derived from English, and the names used in the latest technical literature are adopted as much as possible. This section strives to be applicable to all forms of plain bearings. The classification of symbols in this section is divided into symbols used in calculation, technology, geometry and quality assurance of plain bearings. Values with fixed quantities in some structures are denoted in capital letters where possible. In special application areas, the specified basic symbols are only used alone or in combination with appropriate additional symbols when necessary, in order to avoid confusion as much as possible. Multiple naming can be avoided by appropriate diacritics.
