Scope: This standard specifies the meaning and measurement method of carburizing and carbonitriding quench hardening layer depth of steel parts. This standard is applicable to carburized and carbonitrided quench hardened layer; and after final heat treatment, the hardness value at the depth of 3 times the quench hardened layer from the surface is less than 450HV. For steel parts that cannot meet the above conditions, the depth of hardened layer shall be determined according to special agreement. For steel parts with a hardness value higher than 450HV at a distance 3 times from the surface of the hardened layer, this standard is still valid, provided that a specific value with a hardness value greater than 550HV (with 25HV as the first grade) is selected as the critical hardness.
