Scope
This part of GB/T 4498 specifies two methods for determining the ash content of raw rubber, rubber compound and vulcanized rubber. Except for the restrictions stated below, this section applies to raw rubber, rubber compound or vulcanized rubber of the M, N, O, R and U categories in GB/T 5576. -- Method A is not suitable for determining the ash content of various rubber compounds and vulcanized rubbers containing chlorine, bromine or iodine. -- Method B is suitable for the determination of compounded rubber or vulcanized rubber containing chlorine, bromine or iodine, but not for uncompounded rubber. --Compounds containing lithium and fluorine may react with the quartz crucible to generate volatile compounds, resulting in low ash content determination results. Platinum crucibles should be used for ashing fluororubber and lithium polymer rubber. This standard does not deal with the interpretation of ash due to inorganic compounding ingredients in rubber compounds or vulcanizates. This is the responsibility of the analyst, who should understand the behavior of various rubber compounds at high temperatures. These two methods do not necessarily give the same results, so the method used should be stated in the test report.
