Scope: This part of GB/T 16783 provides the test procedures for the following properties of water-based drilling fluids: a) drilling fluid density; b) viscosity and shear force; c) fluid loss; d) water, oil and solid content; e ) sand content; f) methylene blue capacity; g) pH value; h) alkalinity and lime content; i) chloride ion content; j) total hardness in terms of calcium ion. Appendices A to J provide additional test methods, which can be used for: --chemical analysis of calcium ions, magnesium ions, calcium sulfate, sulfur ions, carbonates, potassium ions; --determination of static shear force; --resistivity Determination;--degassing from drilling fluids;--drill pipe corrosion monitoring;--sampling, inspection and rejection;--well site sampling;--glass gauges, thermometers, viscometers, still cups and drilling fluid density Inspection and calibration of gauges; --Using two kinds of test instruments for high temperature and high pressure permeability plugging determination. Appendix K provides the report format for water-based drilling fluids.
