This standard specifies the test method for copper-super[volume] ratio in Cu/Nb-Ti composite superconducting wires. This method and the optional method provided in Appendix A are suitable for cross-sectional area of 0.1 mm2~3 mm2, Nb-Ti wire diameter of 2 μm~200 μm, copper-super [volume] Cu/Nb-Ti composite superconducting wire with ratio not less than 0.5. The Cu/Nb-Ti composite test conductors of this standard have a single structure with circular or rectangular cross-section. This standard uses nitric acid to dissolve copper and gives tolerances and other specific limits for routine testing. Cu/Nb-Ti composite superconducting wires whose cross-sectional area, wire diameter and copper-super[volume] ratio exceed this range can also be measured by this method, but the uncertainty will be reduced. In addition, in special cases, for conductors outside the specified range, there may be special geometric shapes of the test samples, but for the sake of simplicity and keeping the uncertainty low, this standard does not deal with such issues. With appropriate amendments, the test methods given in this standard can be applied to other composite superconducting wires.
