This standard specifies the test method for Cu/Nb3Sn wire copper and non-copper volume ratio. This standard applies to Nb3Sn composite superconducting wires with a cross-sectional area of 0.1 mm2~3.0 mm2 and a volume ratio of copper to non-copper greater than or equal to 0.1. This standard does not require the diameter of the core wire, but it does not apply to superconducting wires in which Sn, Cu-Sn alloys, barrier materials or other non-copper parts are dispersed in a copper matrix, nor is it applicable to superconducting wires in which stable materials are dispersed . In addition, the measurement of the volume ratio of copper to non-copper can be carried out before or after Nb3Sn phase formation heat treatment (see Appendix E). The Cu/Nb3Sn wire rod of this standard has an integrated structure with circular or rectangular cross-section. Although the uncertainty is increased, this standard test method is also applicable to Cu/Nb3Sn wires whose cross-sectional area and copper to non-copper volume ratio exceed the range specified in this standard. With appropriate amendments, the test methods given in this standard can be applied to other composite superconducting wires.
