1.1 This specification covers requirements for primers for use with poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) pipe and fittings that are to be joined by PVC solvent cements meeting the requirements of Specification D2564. 1.2 These primers are used in pressure and nonpressure applications with plain end pipe and either socket-type fittings or bell end pipe. These primers prepare the surface of pipe and fittings before the application of solvent cement. The primer's effect on the set and cure time of the joint is dependent on the cement, pipe size, application method, temperature, and humidity. 1.3 A procedure for using the primer with cement is given in Practice D2855. 1.4 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes, and appendixes which provide explanatory material. These notes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shall not be considered as requirements of the specification. 1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.6 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to the test methods portion, Section 6, of this specification: This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

3.1 This practice is applicable to distinguish between properly and improperly molded PVC plastic pipe fittings. It can be used to: 3.1.1 Determine whether cold slugs or unfused areas are present (Note 2), 3.1.2 Determine the amount of molded-in stress produced by the molding process (Note 3), 3.1.3 Reveal contamination, and 3.1.4 Show the quality of the weld line. Note 2: A cold slug is a piece of material that enters the mold at a significantly lower temperature than the rest of the mass. Note 3: A stress-free part will generally have better properties and higher strength than those with a high degree of stress. Stress-free parts will generally react better when exposed to chemicals. 1.1 This practice covers a procedure for evaluating the quality of molded poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) plastic pipe fittings after exposure to heat. 1.2 Units—The values stated in either inch-pound or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. Note 1: The values in square brackets are SI units requirements. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This International Standard specifies a method for determining the chemical resistance properties of glass-reinforced thermosetting plastics (GRP) pipes and fittings in a deflected condition for nominal sizes DN 100 and larger. In conjunction with ISO 10928, this International Standard provides a method for evaluating the effect of a chemical environment on the interior of a pipe or fitting after a specified period of time. Test conditions and requirements are specified in the referring International Standard. ISO 10467 references this International Standard. NOTE It has been found that the effect of chemical environments can be accelerated by strain induced from deflection; hence, it is frequently referred to as strain corrosion.

1.1 This specification covers the identification of polyethylene plastic pipe and fittings materials in accordance with a cell classification system. It is not the function of this specification to provide specific engineering data for design purposes, to specify manufacturing tolerances, or to determine suitability for use for a specific application. 1.2 Polyethylene plastic materials, being thermoplastic, are reprocessable and recyclable (Note 2). This specification allows for the use of those polyethylene materials, provided that all specific requirements of this specification are met. Note 1: The notes in this specification are for information only and shall not be considered part of this specification. Note 2: See Guide D5033 for information and definitions related to recycled plastics. 1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Note 3: There is no known ISO equivalent to this standard. 1.5 For information regarding molding and extrusion materials see Specification D4976. For information regarding wire and cable materials see Specification D1248.

4.1 This test method establishes the short-time hydraulic failure pressure of thermoplastic or reinforced thermosetting resin pipe, tubing, or fittings. Data obtained by this test method are of use only in predicting the behavior of pipe, tubing, and fittings under conditions of temperature, time, method of loading, and hoop stress similar to those used in the actual test. They are generally not indicative of the long-term strength of thermoplastic or reinforced thermosetting resin pipe, tubing, and fittings. 4.2 Procurement specifications utilizing this test method may stipulate a minimum and maximum time for failure other than the 60 to 70 s listed in 9.1.3. Either the internal hydraulic pressure or the hoop stress may be listed in the requirements. Note 1: Many thermoplastics give significantly different burst strengths depending on the time to failure. For instance, significant differences have been observed between failure times of 65 and 85 s. 4.3 This test method is also used as a short-term pressurization validation procedure, where the specimens are pressurized to a predetermined minimum pressure requirement. 1.1 This test method covers the determination of the resistance of either thermoplastic or reinforced thermosetting resin pipe, tubing, or fittings to hydraulic pressure in a short time period. Procedure A is used to determine burst pressure of a specimen if the mode of failure is to be determined. Procedure B is used to determine that a specimen complies with a minimum burst requirement. 1.2 This test method is suitable for establishing laboratory testing requirements for quality control purposes or for procurement specifications. 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of whoever uses this standard to consult and establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

1.1 This specification establishes requirements for fabricated fittings intended for use with outside-diameter controlled polyethylene pipe and tubing. These fittings are manufactured by heat-fusion joining shape-modified polyethylene components prepared from pipe, molded fittings, sheet, billet, or block. Included are requirements for materials, design, workmanship, minimum dimensions, marking, test methods, and quality control. 1.2 Pressure rating of the fabricated-fitting design is beyond the scope of this standard and shall be established by the fitting manufacturer. This specification includes requirements for both elevated temperature pressure-tests and short-term pressurization tests to demonstrate a reasonable level of performance of the fabricated-fitting design at the pressure rating established by the fitting manufacturer. 1.3 The pressure-tests requirements are specified by the fittings’ equivalent (E) DR. The EDR specified is the DR of the piping system for which the fabricated fitting is intended to be butt-fused. 1.4 The text of this standard references notes and footnotes which provide explanatory material. These notes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shall not be considered as requirements of the standard. 1.5 Units—The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard.
