1.1 This specification covers acceptance testing of rubber insulating covers for use as portable protective devices for protection of workers from accidental contact with live electrical conductors, apparatus, or circuits. It includes insulator hoods, dead-end protectors, line hose connectors, cable end covers, and miscellaneous covers. The electrical, physical, and chemical requirements of this specification shall apply also to any new or modified styles of covers that may be developed for specific purposes. 1.2 Three types of covers, differing in chemical and physical characteristics, are provided, and are designated as Type I, non-resistant to ozone, and Type II and Type III, resistant to ozone. 1.3 Five classes of covers, differing in electrical characteristics, are provided, and are designated as Class 0, Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, and Class 4. 1.4 Five styles of covers, differing in design characteristics, are provided, and are designated as Style A, Style B, Style C, Style D, and Style E. NOTE 1—Because of the use requirements some covers are semi-rigid and others flexible. The flexible devices should remain suitably flexible for application and removal through normal temperatures of − 29 to 54.5°C (−20 to 130°F). 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. See 18.2 for a specific cautionary statement. 1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

1.1 This specification covers a crosslinked polyethylene insulation for electrical wires and cables in conductor sizes 14 AWG [2.08 mm2 ] and larger. The base polymer of this insulation consists substantially of polyethylene or a polyethylene copolymer. 1.2 This type of insulation is suitable for continuous use on power cables in wet and dry locations, for voltage ratings not exceeding 2000 V and at conductor temperatures not exceeding 90°C for normal operation. For copper conductors, the insulation can be applied over the uncoated metal. 1.3 Materials covered by this specification are not sunlight and weather resistant unless they are carbon black pigmented or contain an additive system designed for this protection. 1.4 In many instances the insulation cannot be tested unless it has been formed around a conductor. Therefore, tests are done on insulated wire in this standard solely to determine the relevant property of the insulation and not to test the conductor or completed cable. 1.5 Whenever two sets of values are presented, in different units, the values in the first set are the standard, while those in parentheses are for information only. 1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

1.1 This specification covers crosslinked chlorinated polyethylene (CM) compounds suitable for use as outer coverings or jackets on electrical cables for general-purpose, heavy-duty, and extra-heavy-duty service. 1.2 These jacket materials are not recommended for use on cables which are to be installed at a temperature less than -25°C. 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This part of IEC 60684 gives the requirements for two types of heat-shrinkable, polyolefin sleeving, stress control, not flame retarded, with a nominal shrink ratio up to 3:1. This sleeving has been found suitable for use up to temperatures of 100 °C. – Type A : Medium wall Internal diameter up to 65,0 mm typically – Type B : Thick wall Internal diameter up to 95,0 mm typically These sleevings are normally supplied in colour black. Since these types of sleevings cover a significantly large range of sizes and wall thicknesses, Tables A.1 and A.2 in this standard provides guidance to the range of sizes available. The actual size shall be agreed between the user and the supplier. Materials which conform to this specification meet established levels of performance. However, the selection of a material by a user for a specific application should be based on the actual requirements necessary for adequate performance in that application and not based on this specification alone. This sleeving is designed to be used in MV cable accessories and as such electrical performance must be proven as part of the assembly. Examples of this are described in HD 629 and the IEC 60502 series.

This part of IEC 60684 gives the requirements for heat-shrinkable sleevings for oil barrier, medium voltage cable jointing and termination applications, with nominal shrink ratios of up to 3:1. These sleevings have been found suitable for use up to temperatures of 80 °C. Type A: polyolefin based. Type B: fluoropolymer based, enhanced oil resistance. These sleevings are normally supplied as translucent. Since these types of sleevings cover a significantly large range of sizes and wall thicknesses, Annex A, Tables A.1 and A.2, in this document, provide a guide to the range of sizes available. The actual size will be agreed between the purchaser and supplier. Materials which conform to this standard meet established levels of performance. However, the selection of a material by a user for a specific application should be based on the actual requirements necessary for adequate performance in that application and not based on this standard alone. This sleeving is designed to be used in MV cable accessories and as such, electrical performance as defined as part of the assembly. Examples of this are described in HD 629 and IEC 60502 series.
