This publication is applicable to liquid cooling systems of the closed loop type and the expendable coolant type in which the primary function is transporting of heat from its source to a heat sink. Most liquid cooling system applications are oriented toward the cooling of electronics. Liquid cooling techniques, heat sinks, design features, selection of coolants, corrosion control, and servicing requirements for these systems are presented. Information on vapor compression refrigeration systems, which are a type of cooling system, is found in Reference 1. The purpose of this Aerospace Information Report (AIR) is to provide guidelines for the selection and design of airborne liquid cooling systems.

Since most modern civil transport aircraft capable of carrying air cargo unit load devices or large-size shipping containers have pressurized cabins and cargo compartments, two different cases must be con-sidered: a) normal (low airflow) pressure equalization during climb and descent —from the departure airport pressure down to the cruise flight cabin pressure, up to the landing airport pressure; b) emergency (rapid decompression) pressure equalization in the event of a sudden (possibly "explosive") depressurization of the aircraft fuselage occurring at cruise altitude: this case re-quires very fast (high airflow) pressure equaliz-ation between cruise flight cabin pressure and outer ambient pressure. This International Standard defines the minimum safety requirements to be met by containers used to transport cargo by civil transport aircraft in either case a) or b) above. The flight safety requirements specified in this Inter-national Standard are applicable to the design of — aircraft containers for general cargo, as covered by · ISO 4118 for non-certified lower deck con-tainers, · ISO 6517 for base-restrained certified con-tainers exclusively for the lower deck of high-capacity aircraft, · ISO 8323 for air/surface intermodal containers, · ISO 10327 for certified containers for air cargo; — air mode insulated containers, as covered by ISO 8058; — any airtight shipping containers with an internal volume of 1 m (35 ft) or more. NOTE 1 Most shipping containers/packagings used for air cargo are made of sufficiently low-strength material (e.g. fibreboard) or provide sufficient air leakage (e.g. wooden crates) that they cannot be considered airtight and do not present any significant hazard as a result of pressure equalization. There are however a number of special containers, notably for the carriage of satellites/space hardware, aircraft spares, sensitive scientific or technical equipment, etc., which are airtight per design (in order to protect the contents against atmospheric pollution) or per construction (because of the quality of sealing and materials used).

This specification has been declared "NONCURRENT" as of June 2006. It is recommended, therefore, that this document not be specified for new designs. This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) provides a general overview of oxygen systems for general aviation use. Included are a brief review of the factors and effects of hypoxia, system descriptions and mission explanations for system or component selection, and techniques for safe handling of oxygen distribution systems.

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers internal combustion heat exchanger type heaters used in the following applications: a) cabin heating (all occupied regions and windshield heating); b) wing and empennage anti-icing; c) engine and accessory heating (when heater is installed as part of the aircraft); d) aircraft de-icing. This document details the minimum safety, performance, design, and testing requirements for internal combustion heaters and certain auxiliary devices that are considered necessary for the utilization of heaters in fixed and rotary wing aircraft. This standard is to be considered currently applicable and necessarily subject to revision from time to time due to advances in the aircraft industry. This standard is based on practical engineering requirements for aircraft heaters currently in use and is applicable to aircraft heaters that shall be developed to meet future requirements. The requirements of this standard are primarily intended to be applicable to civil aircraft whose primary function is transporting passengers or cargo.

This ARP covers procedures or methods to be used for fabricating, handling, testing, and installation of oxygen lines in an aircraft oxygen system. The purpose of this recommended practice is to establish and/or outline the methods for fabricating, handling, and testing of oxygen lines and their installation into an aircraft oxygen system. Compliance with this practice should enhance satisfactory operation of the oxygen system.

This standard covers oxygen masks and breathing valves used with both panel mounted and mask mounted demand and pressure-demand oxygen regulators. Mask mounted oxygen regulators are covered under other standards, but when the mask mounted regulator incorporates an integral exhalation valve, the performance of this valve shall meet the requirements of this standard. This standard establishes the minimum performance standards for the manufacturer of demand type crewmember oxygen masks to be used with straight demand, diluter-demand and pressure-demand oxygen systems.

The Engineering Analysis System (EASY) computer program is summarized in this report. It provides techniques for analysis of steady-state and dynamic (transient) environmental control system (ECS) performance, control system stability, and for synthesis of optimal ECS. General uses of a transient analysis computer program for ECS design and development, and general features of EASY relative to these uses, are presented. This report summarizes the nine analysis options of EASY, EASY program organization for analyzing ECS, data input to the program and resulting data output, and a discussion of EASY limitations. This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) lists whole body anthropometric surveys and provides current sources for the survey raw data and summary statistics. The purpose of this directory is to provide a single source for accessing anthropometric survey data for human modelers, human factors specialists, and other interested in anthropometric data. It is not meant to provide detailed data on each survey, but to provide readers with enough information to allow them to make a decision about which surveys are of possible application to their work. The reader can then obtain further information and actual data from the listed points of contact.

This standard covers all types of manually operated high pressure oxygen line shut off valves utilizing either metallic or nonmetallic valve seats for use in general and commercial type aircraft. It is intended that the line valve should be installed in a position accessible in flight, when the cylinder mounted oxygen valves are not. The line shutoff valve may also be used optionally in large systems as a maintenance aid where only a portion of the system need be opened up and purged after repair or replacement of one or more parts. The purpose of this Aerospace Standard is to define general minimum standards for the design, fabrication, test and packaging of manually operated, high pressure oxygen line shut off valves.
