This standard specifies two methods for the determination of the tensile stress at break of an impregnated roving: - the reference method using test specimens produced with moulded epoxy tabs; - a short method using test specimens with no tabs or simple cardboard or composite tabs. The methods are applicable to both assembled (multistrand) and direct (multifilament) rovings; nevertheless the reference method may be used for several linear densities but the short one is described for 1200 tex rovings only, which is the linear density that allows the fibres in the roving to spread out most easily during impregnation.

Diese Internationale Norm legt zwei Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Zugbeanspruchung beim Bruch eines imprägnierten Rovings fest: ein Referenzverfahren: verwendet Probekörper mit geformten Epoxydlaschen; ein Kurzverfahren: verwendet Probekörper ohne Laschen oder mit einfacher Pappe oder Verbundlaschen. Die Verfahren sind sowohl auf assemblierte (mehrsträngig zusammengefasste) Rovings als auch auf Direkt-Rovings (multifile Rovings) anwendbar; dennoch kann das Referenzverfahren für unterschiedliche Strangfeinheiten verwendet werden, während das Kurzverfahren nur für Rovings mit 1200 tex beschrieben ist, d. h. für die Strangfeinheit, die es den Fasern im Roving ermöglicht, während der Imprägnierung ohne Schwierigkeiten ausgelegt zu werden.

1.1 This specification primarily covers glass fabrics woven from “E” electrical continuous glass fiber rovings that are intended primarily as a reinforcing material in laminated plastics for structural use. 1.2 This specification specifies the terminology, definitions, general requirements, and physical requirements for woven roving glass fiber fabrics. This specification permits the application of sizing materials to the glass fiber roving during manufacture that helps facilitate weaving. When used as permitted in this specification, such materials are compatible with the resin matrix as specified in the contracting instrument. Note 18212;Sizing materials on glass fiber yarns, in most cases, are removed by various cleaning procedures as a first stage in preparing a finished fabric. When these yarn sizing materials are removed during a cleaning procedure, they need not be compatible with the subsequent resin matrix. 1.3 Units8212;The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other.
