This standard specifies a method for determining the surface-drying characteristics of sealants, which dries by the action of air or by the chemical reaction of its components. The method described may be carried out: Either as a go/no go test, by determining the surface-drying state after a specified time, to assess compliance with a particular requirement, or by determining the surface-drying state at suitable intervals, until the surface drying-time is obtained.

This standard specifies a method for determining the amount of liquids in a sealant, which are absorbed by a porous substrate. If too much liquid is absorbed, the properties of the sealant can deteriorate and at the same time there is a risk that the adjacent materials will become stained. The method can be used for all types of sealants containing liquids which can be absorbed by porous substrates.

This method applies to the determination of the rate of airleakage through the external envelope of a building. resulting from specified air difference. The method is designed to measure the total airleakage through the building elements or envelope surrounding a specific volume (a building or part of a building). The method is not intended for determination of the ventilation rate of a building or volume. at natural pressure conditions. If a part of the envelope of the building or of the chosen part, is not to be included in the measurement. this element must be airtight or the pressure on each side must be equal during the test. If it is not possible to produce positive and negative pressure differences of 55 Pa. e.g. when using existing fans in the building, a simplified procedure in accordance with annex C may be used. The results, however, can not be regarded quite adequate. (Annex C is not part of the standard.)

This standard specifies a laboratory method for the determi-nation of skin formation. It is valid for sealants which form skin and are used in building constructions. The method is used only for sealants which contain so much drying oil that a clearly noticed skin surface is formed. The purpose of the method is to determine the thickness of the skin when the sealant is aged, in order to check that only a skin forms on the sealant, but also to check that the sealant itself does not dry completely.

This part of ISO 4190 lays down rules relating to the planning and selection of lift installations for use in residential buildings, in order to ensure adequate service. It permits, in particular, the number of lifts and their main characteristics to be defined at the very beginning of building design.
