1.1 This guide identifies variables to consider when evaluating repetitive-member assembly performance for parallel framing systems. 1.2 This guide defines terms commonly used to describe interaction mechanisms. 1.3 This guide discusses general approaches to quantifying an assembly adjustment including limitations of methods and materials when evaluating repetitive-member assembly performance. 1.4 This guide does not detail the techniques for modeling or testing repetitive-member assembly performance. 1.5 The analysis and discussion presented in this guideline are based on the assumption that a means exists for distributing applied loads among adjacent, parallel supporting members of the system. 1.6 Evaluation of creep effects is beyond the scope of this guide. 1.7 This guide does not purport to suggest or establish appropriate safety levels for assemblies, but cautions users that designers often interpret that safety levels for assemblies and full structures should be higher than safety levels for individual structural members. Note 1: Methods other than traditional safety factor approaches, such as reliability methods, are increasingly used to estimate the probability of failure of structural elements. However, the extension of these methods to assemblies or to complete structures is still evolving. For example, complete structures will likely exhibit less variability than individual structural elements. Additionally, there is a potential for beneficial changes in failure modes (i.e., more ductile failure modes in systems). These considerations are beyond the scope of this guide. 1.8 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The SI equivalents are approximate in many cases. 1.9 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. This International Standard specifies requirements for establishing the characteristic properties of structural laminated veneer lumber (LVL), including 5th percentile strength values, stiffness characteristics and other performance characteristics, related to its end use as a structural product for dry use (bonding class 1). It is applicable to members used in flatwise or edgewise bending orientations. It does not cover the assessment of formaldehyde requirements, biological durability, fire performance or manufacturing, such as quality control and marking.

This International Standard specifies static and cyclic test methods as a basis for the derivation of lateral load resisting parameters which are required in the wind and seismic design of shear walls in timber buildings. This International Standard does not include criteria for parameters which are, at times, stipulated in national standards or building codes. This International Standard can be used to determine those parameters under the following conditions: a) Method I: the boundary conditions are designed to produce mainly the shear response of the wall and ensure that the full shear capacity of the wall is achieved; b) Method II: the boundary conditions are designed to produce mainly the rocking (rigid body rotation of the wall) or combined shear-rocking response of the wall reflecting the intended actual construction details of joints connecting the wall to bottom and top boundaries. This International Standard specifies procedures to ascertain the envelope curves (backbone or skeleton curves) for shear walls subjected to a static or a cyclic displacement schedule.

This International Standard specifies the requirements for grading, test methods, determination of characteristic values, methods of specifying durability and sizes of single poles manufactured from solid timber for telecommunications and electrical distribution purposes, either preservative treated or untreated, under cantilever or compression loading. It specifies the: — methods of measuring the sizes of solid wood poles for overhead transmission and telecommunication lines and permissible deviations that are taken into account for the acceptance of the poles; — requirements for handling and the characteristics for visual strength grading of softwood and hardwood poles, as well as the marking requirements; — methods of test to determine characteristic values for modulus of elasticity and bending strength of any population of wood poles and moisture content of solid wood poles; — requirements for durability and preservative treatment of wood poles. This International Standard is applicable to both softwood and hardwood poles. This International Standard does not quantify the service life that can be expected from a pole. NOTE This depends on its geographical location, the associated climate of its service environment and either the natural durability of the heartwood of the species selected or the combination between selection of species, preservative type, and requirements of retention and any incised zones. It is not applicable to poles used as beams.

This International Standard is applicable to determining the resistance to deflection and damage of wood-based panels subjected to concentrated impact loads from nonrigid blunt objects, concentrated static loads, and uniformly distributed loads. Surface indentation is not evaluated separately from deflection. The procedures are intended to simulate loading on roof or floor sheathing materials installed directly to framing. Three applications are covered: roof sheathing, subfloors, and single floors. Panels are tested parallel and/or perpendicular to the panel strength axis. Roof sheathing is tested in both a dry and a wet condition, while subfloors and single floors are both tested in a dry condition, as well as a condition of having dried out after being wet. These moisture conditions are those commonly experienced with site-built construction. These procedures do not cover vibration and are not intended for the evaluation of the framed assembly as a whole.

This part of ISO 22389 specifies the requirements for prefabricated wood-based I-beams used as structural members in bending applications. It gives procedures for establishing and evaluating structural capacities of prefabricated wood-based I-beams. The capacities considered are shear, moment, stiffness, bearing, and flange tension and compression. Procedures for establishing common details are given and certain end-use considerations specific to wood-based I-beams are itemized. Wood-based I-beams tested according to this part of ISO 22389 are intended for use under covered conditions and utilize components that are able to resist the effects of moisture on structural performance due to construction delays or other conditions of similar severity, but are not intended to be permanently exposed to the weather. This part of ISO 22389 is not applicable to fire performance, formaldehyde requirements and biological durability. It does not cover manufacturing requirements for prefabricated wood-based I-beams. NOTE Procedures set out in this part of ISO 22389 are applicable to I-beams defined by a standard or a manufacturer's specification that includes requirements for the flanges, webs and bonding, and production controls, including ongoing conformity assessment. This part of ISO 22389 does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this part of ISO 22389 to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. A specific precautionary statement is given in 5.1.5.

This International Standard specifies test methods for determining the structural properties of double-sided, wood-based, load-bearing structural insulated panels (SIPs) for use in walls. It is applicable to SIPs having — two face layers, at least one of which is a wood-based structural panel, and — a core made of a thermally insulating material having sufficient shear strength to cause the face layers to act together structurally. NOTE 1 Gypsum-based structural boards are commonly used as a face layer. NOTE 2 Panels can contain internal framing or bracing.
