The procedures outlined here are grounded in the generally accepted body of knowledge and experience in the field of forensic document examination. By following these procedures, a forensic document examiner can reliably reach an opinion concerning whether two or more impressions were created by the same checkwriter, whether a particular checkwriter created the specific impression, or the determination of the make and model of checkwriter that made an impression.1.1 This guide provides procedures for examinations that should be used by forensic document examiners (E 444) for examinations and comparisons involving mechanical checkwriters and their impressions (exclusive of rubber stamp checkwriter impressions or computer generated checkwriter impressions). 1.2 These procedures are applicable whether the examination(s) and comparison(s) are of questioned and known items or of exclusively questioned items. 1.3 These procedures include evaluation of the sufficiency of the material available for examination. 1.4 The particular methods employed in a given case will depend upon the nature and sufficiency of the material available for examination. 1.5 This guide may not cover all aspects of particularly unusual or uncommon examinations. 1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory requirements prior to use.

This part of ISO/IEC 18013 establishes guidelines for the design format and data content of an ISO compliant driving licence (IDL) in regard to both visual human-readable features and ISO machine-readable technologies. It creates a common basis for international use and mutual recognition of the IDL without impeding individual national/community/regional motor vehicle authorities in taking care of their specific needs. The design approach of the IDL ISO ID-1 size card and accompanying booklet with sleeve insert pocket is intended to replace the international driving permit (IDP) paper document (see annex G). The basis of document design premises includes • a minimum common mandatory data element set; • a common layout for ease of recognition; • minimum security requirements. At the discretion of national/community/regional motor vehicle authorities, it • allows for inclusion of supplementary optional data elements to meet the needs of specific national/community/regional requirements apart from the minimum common mandatory data element set; • allows for the incorporation of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC17 machine-readable technologies including magnetic stripe, integrated circuit with contacts, contactless integrated circuit and optical memory technology, and ISO/IEC JTC1/SC31 1-dimensional / 2-dimensional bar codes, at the option of national/community/regional authorities; • allows for the incorporation of current and future technologies (including biometrics, cryptography, data compression) at the option of national/community/regional authorities; • allows for additional document physical security elements at the option of national/community/regional authorities, and facilitates international procurements. A major benefit of these design premises is that a single card may serve a dual purpose of both a national/community/regional licence as well as an internationally recognized licence. Therefore, one card, in some cases, can replace the need for two documents. Alternatively, those countries that choose to maintain their individual domestic design can issue a second card with or without ISO machine-readable technologies to replace the current IDP paper document. This new IDL design yields a document that • is more secure from counterfeiting and alteration than the previous IDP document; • allows authorities to verify the authenticity of the document; • integrates the personal data into a secure ID-1 size medium; • allows a more reliable identification of the licence holder; • allows for machine-readable technologies; • facilitates information exchange and mutual recognition among motor vehicle authorities; • allows the domestic driving licence (DDL) that meets this Standard to serve simultaneously as an ISO compliant driving licence (IDL).

1.1 Standard guide for the derivation of quantitative assessments of the credibility of proposed witness testimony through the application of established statistical principles to combinations of PDD examination results, and for the utilization of such assessments in the interests of justice (The Marin Protocol)1.2 This standard describes circumstances in which proven statistical principles, applied to PDD results, can reliably quantify the trustworthiness or untrustworthiness of witness testimony, and1.2.1 Delineates requirements necessary to effect the generation and practical use of such results, including:1.2.1.1 Criteria regarding witnesses to be examined,1.2.1.2 Criteria for determining facts upon which witnesses are to be examined,1.2.1.3 Certification of examiners eligible to conduct examinations,1.2.1.4 Combinations of results which support strong inferences, and1.2.1.5 Appropriate uses to which strong inferences can be put.1.3 Courts and others responsible for adjudicating questions of fact may choose whether and when to invoke paired PDD testing.1.3.1 This guide expresses the rights and obligations of all participants in order to best serve the interests of justice when it is invoked.1.3.2 Paired PDD testing must not be invoked in any case in any jurisdiction where to do so would violate the laws of that jurisdiction.1.3.3 Adherence to these guidelines ensures that the conclusions reached will be valid.1.4 This standard is directed to the proposed testimony of witnesses in criminal, civil, administrative and family court litigation, regarding factual claims, where1.4.1 It is unlikely that the witnesses could be honestly mistaken, and1.4.2 The facts in dispute are such that the case may hinge on whom the trier of fact believes; whenever,1.4.3 Witnesses on opposite sides of a case offer contradictory testimony.1.4.4 Two or more witnesses testifying for one side offer mutually corroborating testimony.
