This International Standard takes precedence over ISO 15004-1 and ISO 15004-2, if differences exist. This International Standard is not applicable to condensing lenses used for indirect ophthalmoscopy or to accessories. This International Standard is not applicable to table-mounted instruments such as Gullstrand ophthalmoscopes and their derivatives, nor to ophthalmoscopes primarily intended for image capture and/or processing such as those based on scanning laser techniques.

This International Standard, together with ISO 15004-1, specifies minimum requirements and test methods for trial frames for holding trial case lenses, complying with ISO 9801, in front of a subject's eyes in order to assess visual acuity and facilitate optical correction of vision. This International Standard is applicable to lens holders mounted on headbands, bracket-mounted frames and frames mounted in the manner of spectacles with supports on the ears and the bridge of the nose. It is applicable to all types of trial frame, including half-eye and rotating lens holders. This International Standard is not applicable to refractor heads (see ISO 10341). This International Standard takes precedence over ISO 15004-1, if differences exist.

This part of ISO 14713 provides guidelines and recommendations regarding the general principles of design that are appropriate for articles to be sherardized for corrosion protection. The protection afforded by the sherardized coating to the article will depend upon the method of application of the coating, the design of the article and the specific environment to which the article is exposed. The sherardized article can be further protected by application of additional coatings (outside the scope of this part of ISO 14713), such as organic coatings (wet paints or powder coatings). When applied to sherardized articles, this combination of coatings is often known as a "duplex system". General guidance on this subject can be found in ISO 12944-5 and EN 13438. The maintenance of corrosion protection in service for steel with sherardized coatings is outside the scope of this part of ISO 14713.
