This noise test code specifies all the information necessary to carry out efficiently and under standardized conditions the determination, declaration and verification of the noise emission values of several groups of foundry machinery. It specifies noise measurement methods that are available and operating and mounting conditions that shall be used for the test. Noise emission values include emission sound pressure levels at work stations and the sound power level. The determination of these quantities is necessary for: manufacturers to declare the noise emitted; comparing the noise emitted by machines in the group concerned; purposes of noise control at the source at the design stage. The use of this standard ensures the reproducibility of the determination of the noise emission values within specified limits determined by the grade of accuracy of the basic noise measurement method used. Noise measurement methods allowed by this standard are engineering methods (grade 2) and survey methods (grade 3). This standard has a main body giving general requirements common to the foundry machines family. Six normative Annexes give requirements specific to the groups of foundry machinery listed below: core making machines (EN 710); moulding machines (EN 710); knock-out grids and knock-out trays (EN 710); dry abrasive blasting equipment (not restricted to foundry application) (EN 1248); air blasting equipment (EN 1248); diecasting machines (EN 869); and six informative Annexes giving guidance for the definition of specific operating conditions. The main body of this standard also gives guidance for the measurement of the noise emission of foundry machines not dealt with in the Annexes. This standard does not cover the computation of personnel daily noise exposure.

This European Standard specifies the requirements and test methods for ergonomics, innocuousness, comfort, restraint, strength, abrasion, impact performance as well as provisions for marking and instructions supplied by the manufacturer for wrist, palm, knee and elbow protectors (hereinafter referred to as protectors) for all users of roller sports equipment. It does not apply to protectors used in roller sports hockey.

This Technical Specification specifies a method for measuring noise reduction of passive hearing protectors at the threshold of hearing. The method is designed to provide estimates of the noise reduction obtained by typical groups of users in real-world occupational settings, who may lack the training and motivation to wear hearing protectors in an optimum manner. The principle of the test method is to measure the difference in hearing threshold with and without wearing a hearing protector. This difference between the thresholds constitutes the noise reduction. The measurement is done twice on a given number of test subjects. NOTE 1 The principle of measuring the influence of a hearing protector on the hearing threshold is used in ISO 4869-1 and in this Technical Specification. The method described in ISO 4869-1 yields the sound attenuation of the hearing protector under test. The result of the measurement is a pure physical characteristic of the hearing protector. The method described in this Technical Specification yields the performance of the system as a whole, i.e. the influence of hearing protector, test subjects, fitting and instruction. This test method yields data that are collected at low sound pressure levels (close to the threshold of hearing), but which are also representative of the noise reduction values of hearing protectors at higher sound pressure levels. This Technical Specification is inapplicable for level-dependent hearing protectors for sound pressure levels above the point at which their level-dependent characteristics become effective. NOTE 2 At frequencies below 500 Hz, real-ear noise reduction data measured according to this Technical Specification may be spuriously high by a few decibels, with the error increasing as the frequency decreases. The error results from masking of the occluded-ear threshold by physiological noise during testing.

This International Standard specifies design and performance requirements, test methods, user instructions, marking and labelling as appropriate, of flexible horizontal lifeline systems for use at any one time by up to three persons, exclusively for the attachment of personal protective equipment for protection against falls from a height. It does not stipulate designs for flexible horizontal lifelines, except for design limitations that are necessary for safe and durable service. This International Standard does not cover rigid rail systems, nor is it intended to cover flexible guardrails, hand lines and work-positioning anchor lines.

1.1 This specification defines the masses to be used when testing rescue systems and components.1.2 The masses represent personnel and equipment that may be attached to a rescue system or components. However, the masses do not represent any particular type or kind of rescuer or equipment.1.2.1 The masses chosen have been used in the past or are in current use in testing of rescue systems and components. Limiting testing to the masses listed in this specification allows meaningful comparisons between past, current, and future test results.1.3 The user of this specification shall determine which mass(es) represent(s) the personnel and equipment attached to the system or component under test.1.4 For the purposes of this specification, mass and weight are synonymous when the object(s) representing the mass(es) are weighed in air anywhere on Earth.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory requirements prior to use.
