This International Standard applies to personal dose equivalent meters with the following characteristics: a) They are worn on the trunk or the extremities of the body. b) They measure the personal dose equivalents Hp(10) and Hp(0,07) from external X and gamma, neutron and beta radiations, and may measure the personal dose equivalent rates H& p (10) and H& p (0,07). c) They have a digital indication. d) They may have alarm functions for the personal dose equivalents or personal dose equivalent rates. This standard is therefore applicable to the measurement of the following combinations of dose quantities (including the respective dose rates) and radiation 1) Hp(10) and Hp(0,07) from X and gamma radiations; 2) Hp(10) and Hp(0,07) from X, gamma and beta radiations; 3) Hp(10) from X and gamma radiations; 4) Hp(10) from neutron radiations; 5) Hp(10) from X, gamma and neutron radiations; 6) Hp(0,07) from X, gamma and beta radiations. This standard specifies requirements for the dosemeter and, if supplied, for its associated readout system. This standard specifies, for the dosemeters described above, general characteristics, general test procedures, radiation characteristics as well as electrical, mechanical, safety and environmental characteristics. The only requirements specified for associated readout systems are those which affect its accuracy of readout of the personal dose equivalent and alarm settings and those which concern the influence of the reader on the dosemeter. This standard also specifies in Annex C usage categories with respect to different measuring capabilities. This standard does not cover special requirements for accident or emergency dosimetry although the dosemeters may be used for this purpose. The standard does not apply to dosemeters used for measurement of pulsed radiation, such as radiation emanating from most medical diagnostic X-ray facilities, linear accelerators or similar equipment.

This International Standard applies to hand-held instruments used for the detection and localization of neutron emitting radioactive material. These instruments are highly sensitive meaning that they are designed to detect slight variations in the range of usual background that may be caused by illicit trafficking or inadvertent movement of radioactive material. This high sensitivity allows scanning of larger volume items such as vehicles and containers. These instruments may also be used in fixed or temporally fixed unattended mode to monitor check points or critical areas. Instruments addressed by this standard will also provide a means to detect photon radiation for personal protection. This standard does not apply to the performance of radiation protection instrumentation which is covered in IEC 61005 and in IEC 61526. The object of this standard is to establish performance requirements, provide examples of acceptable test methods, and to specify general characteristics, general test conditions, radiation characteristics, electrical safety, and environmental characteristics, that are used to determine if an instrument meets the requirements of this standard. The results of tests performed provide information to government agencies and other users on the capability of radiation detection instruments for reliably detecting neutron sources. Obtaining operating performance that meets or exceeds the specifications as stated in this standard depends upon properly establishing appropriate operating parameters, maintaining calibration, implementing a suitable response testing and maintenance program, auditing compliance with quality requirements, and providing proper training for operating personnel.

This International Standard is applicable to X-ray systems designed for screening people to detect if they are carrying objects that could be used for criminal purposes, e.g., terrorist use, drug smuggling and theft. These objects include weapons, explosives, chemical and biological agents and other concealed items. Three types of X-ray screening systems are currently in use. These are backscatter systems, transmission systems and combination backscatter/transmission systems. With backscatter systems the X-rays are used to detect objects hidden under or within the person’s clothing. With transmission systems objects swallowed or hidden in body cavities may be detected. Combined devices can be used to get both pieces of information simultaneously. The object of this standard is to lay down standard requirements and also to specify general characteristics, general test procedures, radiation characteristics, electrical characteristics, environmental influences, mechanical characteristics, safety requirements and to provide examples of acceptable methods in terms of dose to the whole or part of the body for each screening procedure and the time taken for each screening procedure. In particular the standard addresses the design requirements as they relate to the radiation protection of the people being screened, people who are in the vicinity of the equipment and the operators. The standard does not address the performance requirements for the quality of the object detection.

This International Standard applies to hand-held instruments used for the detection and localization of radioactive photon emitting materials. These instruments are highly sensitive meaning that they are designed to detect slight variations in the range of usual photon background caused mainly by illicit trafficking or inadvertent movement of radioactive material. Compared to pocket devices (see IEC 62401), this highly sensitive instrument allows the scanning of larger volume items such as vehicles or containers. They may also be used in fixed or temporarily fixed unattended mode to monitor check points or critical areas. These instruments also provide an indication of the ambient dose equivalent rate from photon radiation. However, this standard does not apply to the performance of radiation protection instrumentation which is covered in IEC 60846-1 and IEC 61526. These instruments may provide additional functions as described below without including all features of specialized portable identification devices as defined by IEC 62327: ? rejecting natural background variation encountered when used in movement; ? sorting alarms of interest from naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) or medical radionuclides originated alarms; ? provide source categorization data (including limited photon spectra) to a remote location. The object of this standard is to establish performance requirements including physical characteristics, general test conditions, radiation characteristics, electrical safety, and environmental conditions. This standard provides examples of acceptable test methods to determine if an instrument meets the requirements of this standard. The results of tests performed provide information to users on the capability of radiation detection instruments for reliably detecting photon sources. Obtaining operating performance that meets or exceeds the specifications as stated in this standard depends upon properly establishing appropriate operating parameters, maintaining calibration, implementing a suitable response testing and maintenance program, providing proper training for operating personnel and developing operating procedures that address the instrument limitations and capabilities.

This International Standard applies to radiographic inspection systems with photon radiation energy of at least 500 keV for inspection of cargo, vehicles and cargo containers. Such inspection systems generally consist of radiation source(s), detectors, control system, image processing system, radiation safety system and other auxiliary devices/facilities. The object of this standard is to define the tests and the relevant testing methods for determining the performance characteristics of the radiographic inspection systems. This standard is not applicable to those cargo/vehicle inspection systems using neutron source radiography, computed tomography or backscatter technology.

This standard applies to centralized systems intended for continuous monitoring of radiation and/or levels of radioactivity in nuclear facilities, primarily in support of radiological protection in the working areas. More specifically, it applies to centralized data processing systems, data links, and equipment siting and layout. It also applies to indications displayed locally and centrally, but it does not apply to criticality alarm systems.

The scope of this standard is to establish minimum performance criteria and test requirements for four categories of alarming electronic radiation measurement instruments used to manage exposure by alerting the emergency responders when they are exposed to photon radiation. The instruments provide rapid and clear indication of the level of radiation exposure and/or exposure rate and readily recognizable alarms. The alarms are both audible and visual, and distinguishable between exposure rate and exposure. Vibratory alarms are optional. Emergency responders include fire and rescue services, law enforcement and medical services. Other possible users include Critical Inf
