This document specifies a method whereby the heat of reaction generated during epoxy resin crosslinking is measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The degree of crosslinking is determined based on this result. This method is applicable to epoxy resin systems with a moderate or slow crosslinking-reaction speed. It might not be applicable to systems with a fast crosslinking-reaction speed at ambient temperature.

This document establishes a system of designation for poly(phenylene ether) (PPE) thermoplastic materials, which can be used as the basis for specifications. The types of poly(phenylene ether) (PPE) materials are differentiated from each other by a classification system based on appropriate levels of the designatory properties: a) temperature of deflection under load; c) Charpy notched impact strength; b) melt volume-flow rate; d) flammability; and on information about basic polymer parameters, intended application and/or method of processing, important properties, additives, colorants, fillers and reinforcing materials. This document is applicable to all PPE materials, including those modified with polystyrene or polyamide or other materials. It applies to materials ready for normal use in the form of powder, granules or pellets and to materials unmodified or modified by colorants, additives, fillers, etc. It is not intended to imply that materials having the same designation give necessarily the same performance. This document does not provide engineering data, performance data or data on processing conditions which can be required to specify a material for a particular application and/or method of processing. If such additional properties are required, they are intended to be determined in accordance with the test methods specified in ISO 20557-2, if suitable. In order to specify a thermoplastic material for a particular application or to ensure reproducible processing, the requirements are given in data block 5 (see 4.1).

This document specifies the methods of preparation of test specimens and the test methods to be used in determining the properties of poly(phenylene sulfide) (PPS) moulding and extrusion materials. Requirements for handling test material and for conditioning both the test material before moulding and the specimens before testing are given. Procedures and conditions are described for the preparation of test specimens, and procedures for measuring properties of the materials from which these specimens are made are given. Properties and test methods which are suitable and necessary to characterize poly(phenylene sulfide) moulding and extrusion materials are listed. The properties have been selected from the general test methods in ISO 10350-1. Other test methods in wide use for, or of particular significance to, these moulding and extrusion materials are also included in this document as are the designatory properties specified in ISO 20558-1 (melt mass-flow rate or melt viscosity, density and tensile modulus). In order to obtain reproducible and comparable test results, it is intended to use the methods of preparation and conditioning, the specimen dimensions and the test procedures specified in this document. Values determined will not necessarily be identical to those obtained using specimens of different dimensions or prepared using different procedures.

5.1 This test method provides a guide for evaluating the moldability of thermosetting molding powders. This test method does not necessarily denote that the molding behavior of different materials will be alike and trials may be necessary to establish the appropriate molding index for each material in question. 5.2 The sensitivity of this test diminishes when the molding pressure is decreased below 5.3 MPa (764 psi), so pressures lower than this are not ordinarily recommended. This is due to the friction of moving parts and the insensitivity of the pressure switch actuating the timer at these low pressures. 1.1 This test method covers the measurement of the molding index (plasticity) of thermosetting plastics ranging in flow from soft to stiff by selection of appropriate molding pressures within the range from 3.7 to 36.5 MPa (530 to 5300 psi). 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard.
