This part of ISO 7539 covers the procedures available for stress corrosion testing of welded specimens and examines the additional factors which must be taken into account when conducting tests on welded specimens. In particular this part of ISO 7539 gives recommendations for the choice of specimens and test procedures to determine the resistance of a metal to stress corrosion when it is welded. The term "metal", as used in this part of ISO 7539, includes alloys.

This test method is suitable for determining trace concentrations of iron in a wide variety of products, provided that appropriate sample preparation has rendered the iron and sample matrix soluble in water or other suitable solvent (see 10.1 and Note 6). This test method assumes that the amount of color developed is proportional to the amount of iron in the test solution. The calibration curve is linear over the specified range. Possible interferences are described in Section 5.1.1 This test method covers the determination of iron in the range from 1 to 100 956;g.1.2 This test method is intended to be general for the final steps in the determination of iron and does not include procedures for sample preparation.1.3 This test method is applicable to samples whose solutions have a pH less than 2. This European Standard defines terms relating to corrosion that are widely used in modern science and technology. In addition, some definitions are supplemented with short explanations. NOTE 1 Throughout the document IUPAC rules for electrode potential signs are applied. The term "metal" is also used to include alloys and other metallic materials. NOTE 2 Terms and definitions related to inorganic surface treatment of metals are given in prEN 12508 Corrosion protection of metals and alloys — Surface treatment, metallic and other inorganic coatings — Vocabulary.

1.1 This practice covers the procedure for sorting ferrous metals using the electromagnetic (eddy-current) method. The procedure relates to instruments using absolute or comparator-type coils for distinguishing variations in mass, shape, conductivity, permeability, and other variables such as hardness and alloy that affect the electrical or magnetic properties, or both, of the material. The selection of samples to determine sorting feasibility and to establish calibration standards is also included. 1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Absolute and comparative methods provide a means for sorting large quantities of ferrous parts of stock with regard to composition, condition, structure, or processing, or a combination thereof. The comparative or two-coil method is used when high-sensitivity testing is required. The advantage of this method is that it almost completely suppresses all internal or external disturbances such as temperature variations or stray magnetic fields. The two-coil method is normally used when harmonic evaluation is employed for sorting. The ability to accomplish satisfactorily these types of separations is dependent upon the relation of the magnetic characteristics of the ferromagnetic parts to their physical condition. These methods may be used for high-speed sorting in a fully automated setup where the speed of testing may approach ten specimens per second depending on their size and shape. The success of sorting ferromagnetic material depends mainly on the proper selection of magnetic field strength and frequency of signal in the test coil, fill factor, and variables present in the sample. The degree of accuracy of a sort will be affected greatly by the coupling between the test coil field and the test specimen and the accuracy with which the specimen is held in the test coil field during the measuring period. When high currents are used in the test coil, a means should be provided to maintain a constant temperature of the reference specimen in order to minimize measurement drift.1.1 This practice covers the procedure for sorting ferrous metals using the electromagnetic (eddy-current) method. The procedure relates to instruments using absolute or comparator-type coils for distinguishing variations in mass, shape, conductivity, permeability, and other variables such as hardness and alloy that affect the electromagnetic or magnetic properties of the material. The selection of specimens to determine sorting feasibility and to establish standards is also included.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 1.1 The terms and their definitions given herein represent terminology relating to wear and erosion of solid bodies due to mechanical interactions such as occur with cavitation, impingement by liquid jets or drops or by solid particles, or relative motion against contacting solid surfaces or fluids. This scope interfaces with but generally excludes those processes where material loss is wholly or principally due to chemical action and other related technical fields, as, for instance, lubrication. 1.2 This terminology is not exhaustive; the absence of any particular term from this collection does not necessarily imply that its use within this scope is discouraged. However, the terms given herein are the recommended terms for the concepts they represent unless otherwise noted. 1.3 Certain general terms and definitions may be restricted and interpreted, if necessary, to make them particularly applicable to the scope as defined herein. 1.4 The purpose of this terminology is to encourage uniformity and accuracy in the description of test methods and devices and in the reporting of test results in relation to wear and erosion. Note 18212;All terms are listed alphabetically. When a subsidiary term is defined in conjuntion with the definition of a more generic term, and alphabetically-listed cross-reference is provided.

1.1 This practice provides guidelines for continuous monitoring of acoustic emission (AE) from metal pressure boundaries in industrial systems during operation. Examples are pressure vessels, piping, and other system components which serve to contain system pressure. Pressure boundaries other than metal, such as composites, are specifically not covered by this document. 1.2 The functions of AE monitoring are to detect, locate, and characterize AE sources to provide data to evaluate their significance relative to pressure boundary integrity. These sources are those activated during system operation, i.e., no special stimulus is applied to produce AE. Other methods of nondestructive testing (NDT) may be used, when the pressure boundary is accessible, to further evaluate or substantiate the significance of detected AE sources. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. For specific precautionary statements, see Section 6.
