1.1 This test method covers the measurement of the luminous reflectance factor of acoustical materials for use in predicting the levels of room illumination. 1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

1 This standard applies to the hearing aids of any type with automatic gain control (AGC) circuits. This standard gives uniform methods for specifying dynamic and static performance characteristics of hearing aids with AGC circuits together with the relevant methods of measurement for these charac-teristics. This standard is confined to a description of the different characteristics and the relevant methods of measurement. It does not attempt to specify performance requirements. 2 This standard includes devices which have compression and/or limiting properties with respect to the envelope of the input signal. Devices which control the long-term average output level are also included. a) AGC is employed to obtain compression, or the reduction of the dynamic range of the sound at the output, with the object of preserving the integrity of the input waveform. b) AGC circuits instead of clipping devices are often used for limiting purposes. A limiting effect occurs when the input/output characteristic flattens out at higher input levels. Limiting action is mainly used as a means of preventing excessive output sound from the hearing aid from reaching the listener's ear. 3 This standard does not include: a) Expanders. b) Clipping devices, which cut off the signal peaks above a certain level; such devices differ basically from AGC circuits, which, in a steady state, tend to preserve the waveform of the input signal. Note. - An AGC circuit with very short recovery time may cause considerable distortion, especially in the low-frequency range. This should be given special attention.

This part of IEC 1094 is applicable to working standard microphones. It specifies mechanical dimensions and certain electroacoustical characteristics for working standard microphones used in measuring systems for the determination of sound pressure to enable these microphones to be used as transfer standards in the calibration of acoustic measurement instruments. It establishes a system for classifying working standard microphones into a number of types according to their dimensions and properties in order to facilitate the specification of measurement systems, the calibration of measuring systems and microphones by sound calibrators, and the interchangeability of microphones in given measuring and calibration systems. It does not specify the transduction principle by which working standard microphones operate.

This part of IEC 1094 is applicable to laboratory standard microphones meeting the requirements of IEC 1094-1. The principles of the method are applicable to other types of microphones. In particular, microphones which fulfil the requirements of IEC 1094-1, when fitted with a special adaptor, may also be calibrated according to this standard when the adaptor is removed. This part of IEC 1094 specifies a primary method of determining the free-field sensitivity so as to establish a reproducible and accurate basis for the measurement of sound pressure under free-field conditions. This part of IEC 1094 is intended for use by laboratories with highly experienced staff and specialized equipment.
