This part of IEC 60534 applies to the following control valves: - types: segmented ball and eccentric rotary control valves with or without flanges; - nominal sizes: DN20 up to and including DN400; NOTE 1 See ISO 7005 and ISO 6708. - designations: PN10, PN16, PN20, PN25, PN40, PN50, PN63, PN100 and PN110. NOTE 2 See ISO 7005 and ISO 7268. NOTE 3 Designations PN63 and PN100 are not included in ISO 7005. NOTE 4 Designations PN20, PN50 and PN110 are not included in European Standard EN 1092. NOTE 5 For the purposes of face-to-face dimensions, designation PN100 in EN 1092 corresponds to PN110. NOTE 6 For the purposes of face-to-face dimensions, the following correlations apply: - PN20 covers Classes 125 and 150 in the ANSI system; - PN50 covers Classes 250 and 300 in the ANSI system; - PN110 covers Class 600 in the ANSI system. This part of IEC 60534 is intended to permit a variety of positioning devices, which respond to a rotary motion, to be mounted on the actuator of a control valve, either directly or by employing an intermediate mounting bracket. This standard is applicable where interchangeability between actuators and positioners is desired. a) The standardized mounting in this standard defines the interface between the positioner and a part of the actuator having a rotary movement proportional to the control valve travel. b) This standard also covers the direct connection between the positioner feedback and the shaft (or its axial extension) of a rotary control valve. In such cases, the feedback rotation is coincident with the valve angular travel. c) The standardized mounting applies to those rotary actuators in which the rotary part mentioned in item a) has a maximum travel of 90° Such a travel is coincident with the valve travel when a direct connection (see item b)) is performed. d) The standardized mounting is divided into two options. Figure 1 shows the basic design and defines the minimum requirements an actuator must fulfil to adapt most common positioners. The universal design in figure 2 offers more variations of positioner adaptation and positioner feedback connection. The positioner manufacturer should state which mounting design is required.

This part of IEC 60534 establishes a theoretical method to predict the external sound-pressure level generated in a control valve and within adjacent pipe expanders by the flow of compressible fluids. This method considers only single-phase dry gases and vapours and is based on the perfect gas laws. This standard addresses only the noise generated by aerodynamic processes in valves and in the connected piping. It does not consider any noise generated by reflections, mechanical vibrations, unstable flow patterns and other unpredictable behaviour. It is assumed that the downstream piping is straight for a length of at least 2 m from the point where the noise measurement is made. This method is valid only for steel and steel alloy pipes (see equations (38) and (40) in 5.6). The method is applicable to the following single-stage valves: globe (straight pattern and angle pattern), butterfly, rotary plug (eccentric, spherical), ball, and valves with cage trims. Specifically excluded are the full bore ball valves where the product FPC exceeds 50 % of the rated flow coefficient. For limitations on special low noise trims not covered by this standard, see 6.5. When the Mach number in the valve outlet exceeds 0,3 for standard trim or 0,2 for low noise trim, the procedure in clause 7 is used. The Mach number limits in this standard are as follows:

This part of IEC 60534 includes equations for predicting the flow of compressible and incompressible fluids through control valves. The equations for incompressible flow are based on standard hydrodynamic equations for Newtonian incompressible fluids. They are not intended for use when non-Newtonian fluids, fluid mixtures, slurries, or liquid-solid conveyance systems are encountered. At very low ratios of pressure differential to absolute inlet pressure (△p/p1), compressible fluids behave similarly to incompressible fluids. Under such conditions, the sizing equations for compressible flow can be traced to the standard hydrodynamic equations for Newtonian incompressible fluids. However, increasing values of △p/p1 result in compressibility effects which require that the basic equations be modified by appropriate correction factors. The equations for compressible fluids are for use with gas or vapour and are not intended for use with multiphase streams such as gas-liquid, vapour-liquid or gas-solid mixtures. For compressible fluid applications, this part of IEC 60534 is valid for valves with xT ≤ 0,84 (see table 2). For valves with xT > 0,84 (e.g. some multistage valves), greater inaccuracy of flow prediction can be expected. Reasonable accuracy can only be maintained for control valves if Kv/d < 0,04 (Cv/d < 0,047).

This section of IEC 60534-6 is intended to permit a variety of positioning devices, which respond to a linear motion, to be mounted on the actuator of a control valve, either directly or by employing an intermediate mounting bracket. This section is applicable where interchangeability between actuators and positioners is desired. The following parameters define the intended applicability of this section for the guidance of manufacturers and users. - The standardized mounting applies only to positioners which are mounted on the side of the actuator. - The standardized mounting applies in general only to actuators which have a travel from 10 mm through 100 mm. - The standardized mounting is designed to cover three basic types of actuator designs (see figure 1): a) those with some form of cast or fabricated yoke to connect the actuator power unit to the valve; b) those which use some form of central tube yoke to connect the actuator power unit to the valve; c) those in which the yoke incorporates two or more columns or pillars to connect the actuator power unit to the valve.
