The aim of this European Prestandard 1s to establish a heat exchanger terminology so that consistent terms are used. For the purposes of this European Prestandard a heat exchanger 1s a device, the main function of which 1s to transfer heat between two fluids, with physical separation by a wall. Heat exchange between a fluid and a solid material (1n the case of ovens in particular) is therefore excluded.

This European Prestandard applies when referenced by the various branch application standards. The specific application European (Pre)standards shall be the prime reference documents.
