This European Standard specifies the minimum requirements for technical rescue helmets. These helmets are intended to protect the upper head mainly against the effects of mechanical hazards such as impact and penetration, flame, electrical and chemical hazards while conducting technical rescue and associated activities. Technical rescues involve the environments and conditions associated with operational scenarios such as but not limited to those found during road traffic collisions, railway incidents and when working in and around collapsed structures, often for extended periods of time, after natural disasters (flood, earthquake, etc.). Requirements for marking and information to be supplied by the manufacturer are included. Helmets for use while firefighting in buildings and other structures or in wildland firefighting environments, are not covered by this European Standard see EN 443 and EN 16471. Helmets for use in water rescue operations using craft, such as boats, canoes etc., are also not covered by this European Standard. Protection of the face and eyes, when not provided by visors, ears and neck might require additional items of personal protective equipment (PPE), which are not covered by this European Standard.

This European Standard specifies the minimum requirements for wildland fire fighting helmets protecting the upper head mainly against the effects of impact, penetration, heat, flame and burning embers while conducting fire fighting and associated activities in wildland environments. Requirements for marking and information to be supplied by the manufacturer are included. Wildland fire fighting involves direct and indirect attack techniques (like wood cutting). Wildland environments include forests, crops, plantations and grass/heath/scrub or farmland. Helmets for use while fire fighting in buildings and other structures are not covered by this European Standard (see EN 443). This helmet is not intended to provide protection during fire entrapment. Protection of the face, eyes, ears and neck may require additional items of personal protective equipment (PPE), which are not covered by this European Standard.

This European Standard specifies minimum requirements for self-contained re-breathing diving apparatus to ensure a minimum level of safe operation of the apparatus. It applies to the following: a maximum depth of 6 m for apparatus using pure oxygen; a maximum depth of 40 m for apparatus using oxygen in nitrogen gas mixtures; a maximum depth of 100 m for apparatus using oxygen and helium or oxygen, nitrogen and helium gas mixtures; water temperatures from 4 °C to 34 °C or outside these temperatures as specified by the manufacturer.

This International Standard specifies requirements for high visibility clothing which is capable of visually signalling the user’s presence. The high visibility clothing is intended to provide conspicuity of the wearer in any light condition when viewed by operators of vehicles or other mechanized equipment during daylight conditions and under illumination of headlights in the dark. Es sind Leistungsanforderungen an die Farbe und die Retroreflexion festgelegt sowie an die Mindestflachen und die Anordnung der Schutzkleidungsmaterialien.

1.1 Scope. 1.1.1 Title. NFPA 301, Code for Safety to Life from Fire on Merchant Vessels, shall be known as the Merchant Vessel Code and is referred to herein as ôthis codeö or ôthe code.ö 1.1.2 The code addresses construction, arrangement, protection, and space utilization factors that are necessary to minimize danger to life from fire, smoke, fumes, or panic. It also provides for reasonable protection against property damage and avoidance of environmental damage consistent with the normal operation of vessels. Fundamental requirements applicable to all vessels are found in Chapters 1 through 9. These fundamental requirements are modified in Chapters 10 through 18 as applicable for any type of space. The requirements in Chapters 1 through 18 are modified in Chapters 19 through 21 as applicable for any given vessel type. For example, a passenger vessel would follow the requirements of Chapters 1 through 18 and Chapter 21. 1.1.3 The code identifies the minimum criteria for the design of egress facilities so as to permit prompt escape of passengers and crew to safe areas aboard vessels and, where necessary, to survival craft embarkation stations. 1.1.4 The code recognizes that life safety is more than a matter of egress and, accordingly, deals with other considerations that are essential to life safety. It also recognizes the unique operating environment of merchant vessels and the relationships among life safety, property protection, and environmental protection and deals with these criteria accordingly. 1.1.5* Where permanently moored and occupied as buildings, merchant vessels shall be permitted to be treated as buildings and shall be permitted to be subject to the provisions of appropriate building codes and standards as specified by the local authority having jurisdiction. A.1.1.5 Permanently moored vessels fall within the scope of NFPA 101, Life Safety Code.
