Riguarda le ghise gregge liquide o solide. Le ghise gregge solide possono essere fornite: in pani, ottenuti alla macchina a colare o in sabbia; in granuli, ottenuti all' impianto di granulazione. Le ghise gregge della presente norma possono essere ottenute con qualsiasi impianto idoneo (altoforno, forno elettrico, ecc.) e con qualsiasi procedimento di fabbricazione (riduzione del minerale di ferro, carburazione del rottame di acciaio, ecc.). Le ghise gregge sono leghe prevalentemente di ferro e carbonio nelle quali la percentuale di carbonio è di regola maggiore del 2% e nelle quali il ferro costituisce l' elemento preponderante in percentuale. in tali ghise possono anche essere presenti altri elementi di lega; sono però escluse le ghise con tenore di manganese oltre il 6 fino al 30%. Riguarda le ghise austenitiche con grafite lamellare o sferoidale, destinate alla produzione di getti. Le ghise austenitiche sono delle ghise ad elevato tenore di elementi di lega nelle quali la matrice metallica è presente sotto forma di austenite stabile alla temperatura ambiente. In esse il carbonio è presente prevalentemente sotto forma di grafite lamellare oppure sferoidale. Possono essere presenti carburi particolarmente nei tipi con alto tenore di cromo. Le ghise austenitiche con grafite sferoidale possiedono caratteristiche meccaniche superiori a quelle con grafite lamellare. Esse possiedono una maggiore resistenza al calore ed alla corrosione, nonché caratteristiche fisiche diverse rispetto a quelle con grafite lamellare aventi la stessa composizione. Non si applica alla ghisa austenitica destinata alla produzione di getti centrifugati o colati in conchiglia. Prospetti: composizione chimica, caratteristiche meccaniche. 1.1 This specification covers three classes of gray iron suitable for castings exposed to temperatures encountered in such service as grate bars, stoker links, stoker parts, oil still furnace parts, firebox parts, ingot molds, glass molds, caustic pots, and metal melting pots. Note 1: This specification is general, covering cast irons normally used for the above types of service, at temperatures as high as 1400°F (760°C). It is not intended to imply that all three classes are suitable throughout this entire temperature range without regard to actual service stresses. Some are suitable for long service at the lower temperatures only, unless low stresses are involved. 1.2 The three classes of gray iron covered by this specification are as follows: 1.2.1 Class I, possessing superior resistance to thermal shock, 1.2.2 Class II, possessing average resistance to thermal shock and a moderately good tensile strength (tensile strengths above 30 000 psi (207 MPa) may be expected), and 1.2.3 Class III, possessing a higher tensile strength than either Classes I or II (tensile strengths as high as 40 000 psi (276 MPa) may be expected). 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard.
