Scope@ purpose@ and application In ANSI T1.104-1991@ American National Standard for Telecommunication - Exchange-Interexchange Carrier Interfaces- Individual Channel Signaling Protocols@ a 5-digit INF (operator services information) code is specified in the third MF-pulsed field of the Exchange Access North American Operator Services With Expanded Information (EANAOS/Expanded) Signaling protocol and the Exchange Access International Operator Services With Expanded Information (EAIOS/Expanded) Signaling protocol specifications. As specified in the standard@ the code conveys from the exchange carrier (EC) to the interexchange carrier (IC)@ international carrier (INC)@ or consolidated carrier special call handling information associated with operator services. The pulse field contents that are@ and are not@ present on each E-I interface depend on the call types that the EC is allowed or required to provide at the E-I interface location@ the EC switching system capabilities@ and the EC and IC agreements. These same services@ capabilities@ and agreements@ the application of which may be influenced by legal and regulatory restrictions@ will determine the EC handling of particular calling user-to-EC dialing sequences. Since the INF codes are a limited resource@ it is necessary to administer the codes in an efficient manner. The purpose of this document is to enable separate entities that use the INF codes to provide interconnecting equipment that operates compatibly. The document (1) provides additional information on the intended information-conveying structure of the INF code that is specified in ANSI T1.104-1991@ (2) specifies the intended initial and future numbering scheme for the INF code@ (3) provides administrative guidelines for assigning additional information items to be conveyed by the INF code@ and (4) suggests initial decimal INF codes that will convey the specific information items currently recognized by T1. Should the Americal National Standard referenced in this document be superseded by revisions approved by the Americal National Standards Institute@ Inc.@ the revisions shall apply.
