Satellite Earth Stations (SES); the Interconnection of Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) Systems to Packet Switched Public Data Networks (PSPDNs) (DE/SES-3002)
This European Telecommunication Standard (ETS) determines the requirements to be satisfied by Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) systems@ as defined in prETS 300 193 [131 for their interconnection to Packet Switched Public Data Networks (PSPDNs). This ETS applies to the provision of Packet Switched Data Transmission services as defined in Section 2 of CCITT Recommendation X.2 [1]. The ETS is applicable to both one and two way VSAT systems. In the case of one way VSAT systems@ the provision of the services as defined in Section 2 of CCITT Recommendation X.2 [1]@ Implies the implementation of return circuits using other network facilities (e.g. terrestrial networks). The details of these Implementations are for further study. Some extra informative elements are provided in Annex A. Types of specification This ETS deals with two types of specification: a) essential normative requirements (see Clause 4): which are specified in order to ensure that the VSAT system and the PSPDN are connectible. b) Recommendations (see Clause 5): which are characteristics that contribute to maintaining a desirable quality of service and a uniform approach with regard to certain interfacing aspects@ addressing and facilities. However@ the Inability to meet the recommendations shall not@ by itself@ prevent the equipment being considered as compliant with this ETS.
