ESDU 16001 is the first of a series of four Data Items describing the thermal anemometry@ laser-Doppler anemometry and particle-image velocimetry flow measurement techniques. For each technique a brief description is given of the physical principles of operation@ the physical requirements@ the quantities measured and the associated benefits and disadvantages. Flow charts are provided to aid the selection of the appropriate measurement technique for a given application.
