This Standard covers Design B polyphase motors@ as defined in NEMA MG 1@ Motors and Generators@ rated 500 horsepower (373 kW) or less@ 600 volts or less@ that are intended for use in accordance with NFPA 20@ Standard for the Installation of Centrifugal Fire Pumps.These requirements are intended to be used in conjunction with the requirements in the Standard for Electric Motors@ UL 1004.These requirements cover electric motors for use in accordance with the National Electric Code@ ANSI/NFPA 70.These requirements cover both open and totally-enclosed motors.This Standard does not cover the fire pump controller. These controllers are covered by the Standard for Fire Pump Controllers@ UL 218.These requirements do not cover motors for use in hazardous locations as defined in the National Electrical Code@ ANSI/NFPA 70. A product that contains features@ characteristics@ components@ materials@ or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard@ and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A product whose features@ characteristics@ components@ materials@ or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development@ revision@ and implementation of this standard.
