Model testing is outlined and requirements@ and possible relaxation of them@ for similarity explained. A table summarises situations in which dynamic effects are important depending on type of structure and the disturbance input. The mathematical approach using normal mode analysis is introduced and the concept of force derivatives due to structure motion explained. The calculation of response due to external forces is discussed@ with the particular case of turbulence treated in depth.
