Purpose This specification establishes the requirements and procedures for producing a hard@ wear resistant ion nitrided surface on steel parts. Application The ion nitriding process is typically applied to increase surface hardness@ increase wear resistance@ and reduce coefficient of friction of alloy steels@ tool steels@ nitriding steels@ corrosion resistant steels (CRES)@ carbon steels@ ferrous powder metal products@ and other ferrous alloys but usage is not limited to such applications.
