These requirements cover early suppression fast response (ESFR) sprinklers having nominal discharge coefficients and installation orientations as referenced in this standard for installation as part of sprinkler systems for fire-protection service. Requirements for installation and use of ESFR sprinklers are included in the Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems@ NFPA 13@ as well as other NFPA standards. The requirements in this standard are not intended to restrict the application of representative fire and other tests for special sprinklers@ as referenced in the Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems@ NFPA 13@ that are intended to provide protection for specific fire hazards.
