INTRODUCTION The objective of this study was to determine the toxicity of a selected petroleum derived hydrocarbon. API 83-04@ when administered to rabbits over a 4-week period by dermal application. Dosing was initiated on January 16@ 1984 and was terminated on February 14@ 1984. All animals were terminated by February 17@ 1984. This study was run concurrently with two additional API compounds which are reported separately as TLI projects 1705 (1) and 1705(3). Each of the compounds had its own control group and three treated groups. A pilot five-day dermal study kn rabbits (Phase I) was performed in order to determine the dose level to be used during this study (Phase II). Phase I dosing was initiated on November 10@ 1983 and was completed on November 14@ 1983. Terminal sacrifice occurred on November 28@ 1983. The report of Phase I results are presented in Addendum 1 of this report.
