Load factor design is a method for design of simple and continuous beam and girder structures of moderate length. It is a method of proportioning structural members for multiples of the design loads. In the alternate load factor design method@ the strength of continuous members is determined from a plastic analysis as described in Articles 10.44 and 10.48.1.3. To ensure serviceability and durability in the alternate load factor method@ consideration is given to the control of permanent deformations under overloads@ to the fatigue characteristics under service loadings@ and to the control of live load deflections under service loadings.?
