ESDU 77018 gives data for the analysis of a panel (that is@ a thin plate reinforced by orthogonal edge stiffeners). Data@ based largely on a correlation of experimental results relating to panels whose length in the longitudinal direction is at least twice that in the circumferential direction@ enable the following to be determined: the proportion of the total shear reacted by the diagonal tension and the angle of the tension@ the uniform compressive stress in the stiffeners@ the inward radial load on the stiffeners due to the flattening of the plate under the diagonal tension@ and the maximum tensile stress in the plate.
