INTRODUCTION (See Reference1) In recent years@ an increasing number of pilots have been exposed to laser radiation while piloting aircraft. These exposures have typicallhy resulted in glare or flashblindness@ creating an unsafe condition@ especially during takeoffs and landing. In Las Vegs@ Nevada there have been over fifty reported incidents of pilot laser illumination. Because McCarran Airport borders the Las Vegas strip the Food and Drug Aministration (FDA) imposed a moratoriu on outdoor laser light shows in Las Vegas to prevent further incidentsl. Pror to further operation@ the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)@ FDA@ McCaraan Airport@ and the Las Vegas Police Department required that the light shows demonstrate proof of operation without the possi ility of eye or flight hazards from laser exposures ear the airport.
