CREEP-RUPTURE PROPERTIES OF QUENCHED AND TEMPERED PRESSURE VESSEL STEELS – A DATA SUMMARY (To Purchase Call 1-800-854-7179 USA/Canada or 303-397-7956 Worldwide)
In 1962 the Subcommittee on Thermal and Mechanical Treatments of the Pressure Vessel Research Committee's Fabrication Division@ initiated a project at Lehigh University to study the stress-rupture properties of quenched-and-tempered pressure vessel steels. The program was to include materials which were either then being used or potentially useful at service temperatures up to and including the threshold of the creep range. The investigation continued for five years@ during which a number of aspects pertaining to the stress-rupture properties of the steels were studied and a large volume of data was generated. From time to time in the course of the work reports were made of the results but in most cases the data were condensed to fit into the normal space limitations of published papers. Therefore@ it seemed appropriate at the conclusion of the program to prepare a final compilation of the data obtained during the entire investigation in a form that would be readily useful to engineers and designers. This report is intended to provide such a compilation. Since this is a data summary@ there will be no discussion of the figures presented here. An evaluation of these data has been made in the most recently published paper on the program@ and those interested in an overview of the investigation are referred there.
