The three PVRC project reports presented in this Bulletin are concerned with elevated temperature sheet gasket performance in steam media. The three reports of this Bulletin document significant gasket test findings and technology improvements. The utility of the ARLA fixture and the feasibility of less costly intermittent tests are demonstrated by Project 92-24. The feasibility of HOTT tests in steam is demonstrated by Project 92-26. Finally@ it is shown that any differences that exist in the thermal degradation between steam and air or helium media are relatively small on the exponential scales of time and leak rate for the materials tested. In consequence@ it appears that the predictive exposure damage tools developed for sheet flexible graphite and for fiber reinforced elastomeric gasket materials from air and helium or nitrogen media tests may be applied to real steam joints where the OD of the gasket is surrounded by air.
