"SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES The overall objective of this survey has been stated by API: ""To summarize the current volume and composition of various solid wastes generated within the refining industry for use by member companies and API in conducting appropriate environmental assessments"". The five major objectives are as follows: 1. Determine the total volume of each solid (non-listed) or hazardous (listed) waste that is being generated and disposed of industry-wide. 2. Develop preliminary data concerning the impact of landfarms on ground water. 3. Compare this 1982 survey to the 1974 and 1976 surveys. 4. Provide a rational scientific@ engineering and statistical basis for possible generic delisting of RCRA listed hazardous wastes. 5. Examine the data for meaningful correlations. These objectives were met by the development of a survey questionnaire that was completed by member refineries; validating@ compiling and statistically analyzing the resulting data; and producing a final report to depict the results."
