This Bulletin is part of a series that describe technology being developed that will be proposed for inclusion in the 2007 edition of Section VIII@ Division 2 (Div. 2 Rewrite). The Improved Flange Design Project identifies areas of possible improvement@ develops rules for those areas of improvement into the code and verifies newly developed rules for technology. Three new goals for new rules are: bolted flanges that are fit for purpose (safe); less prone to leakage; simple and practical methods of design. This project is structured in three phases; the focus of this report is the first phase ?C to summarize the status of flange design on a world-wide basis
