These requirements cover System Combination Arc-Fault Circuit Protection intended for installation in dwelling units. System Combination Arc-Fault Circuit Protection is a system consisting of an Outlet Branch Circuit Arc-Fault Circuit-Interrupter installed at the first outlet of a branch circuit in combination with a specified Molded Case Circuit Breaker installed as the branch circuit over current protective device. For purposes of these requirements@ the term Molded Case Circuit Breaker means a Thermal Magnetic Circuit Breaker. System Combination Arc-Fault Circuit Protection is intended to mitigate the effects of arcing faults that may pose a risk of fire ignition under certain conditions if the arcing persists. System Combination Arc-Fault Circuit Protection is not intended to detect glowing connections. These devices are intended for use in nominal 120-V ac@ 60-HZ branch circuits. These requirements are intended to be used with the Standard for Arc-Fault Circuit-Interrupters@ UL 1699@ as these requirements modify the requirements described in that standard.
