The SAE Standard covers the measurements of Impulse Electric Field Strength radiated over the frequency range of 20-1000 MHz from a vehicle or other device powered by and internal combustion engine or eclectic motor. Operation of all engines (main and auxiliary) on a vehicle or other device included. All equipment normally operating when an engine is running is also included@ except operator-controlled equipment@ which is excluded. The recommended level applies only to complete vehicles or devices in their final manufactured form. Vehicle mounted rectifiers used for battery charging in electric vehicles are included in this specification when operated in their charging mode. Pupose-This SAE Standard provides test procedures and recommended levels to assist engineers in the measurement of electromagnetic radiation from a vehicle or other device powered by an internal combustion engine or electric motor (excluding aircraft). Adherence to the recommended level will minimize the degradation effects of large populations of potential interference sources on communication services or equipment susceptible to electromagnetic radiation. Procedures are included to measure the radiation from a single vehicle or device. From these measurements predictions may be made of the radiation levels of individual vehicles or devices in a production run.
