"Scope and purpose The purpose of this guideline is the regulation of requirements for the data exchange of CAD systems@ insofar as they communicate with one another as part of the computer-assisted design process within building services (TGA - Technische Geb?udeausr??stung) and those involved in the construction. In this guideline@ the term ""layer"" is used synonymously for e.g. ""film""@ ""level""@ ""plane"" or ""segment"". More particularly@ layer structures are defmed@ which must be observed for the receiving party at least@ so as to be able to work in a meaningful way without further processing. In addition@ definitions are given concerning Scale@ character sets@ line types@ references@ etc. The definitions cover structures only; the layers actually in use are given names by the users. The architecture layer structure describes the mini? mum requirements for sub-division expected by TGA building services plants@ for them to be able directly to work on the sub-divided layers and put them to use without further processing. A uniform layer structure is given for all TGA plants@ which is then tailored individually according to respective management styles. In Order to include the allocation of buildings@ outdoor installations@ supply lines and waste disposal ducts in the data exchange@ a layer structure for surveying is given. Information relating to the design of the framework (data on openings@ foundations@ supporting surfaces@ suspended elements etc.) is transmitted by the TGA designer using the ""framework design'' layer structure. In principle it is acceptable for the receiver to compress the data read in as preferred. However@ the data exchange files must meet the requirements set down in this guideline in every respect. A stipulation applying to all data to be exchanged is that only those layers which have been worked on should be passed on by the sender. In other words@ the TGA designer should send on only the layers for his plants and/or Information about the framework design@ and not the layers he received from the architect@ which describe the building for example."
