INTRODUCTION The research described hereafter deals with the effects of static and dynamic loads on the performance of pile foundations. The research was restricted to single pile foundations in clay and dynamic vertical loads due to waves. The problem is exemplified on figure 1. The behavior of an offshore pile subjected to cyclic loads depends on several factors: 1. The soil type: described by its engineering properties such as shear strength and permeability@ its index properties such as liquid limit and plastic limit@ its micro-fabric and its consolidation history. 2. The load history of the pile: time elapsed between installation and first loading@ rest period between storms@ magnitude of the static and cyclic loads@ and frequency of loading. 3. The pile characteristics: diameter@ length@ compressibility and roughness.
