IEC 60617-12 and IEC 60617-13 establish rules for the construction of graphical symbols that represent binary logic and analogue functions@ respectively. Each standard provides alternative ways of representing functions@ to be used as circumstances dictate. A working group with members from the Netherlands@ Sweden and the UK has developed conventions@ helpful when applying IEC 60617-12 and IEC 60617-13 to symbols for catalogues. This technical report shows which choices the working group has made where IEC 60617-12 and IEC 60617-13 provide alternative techniques. It also helps to create symbols having as consistent an appearance as possible@ not depending on the originator@ while still accurately representing the function.Furthermore@ it establishes additional conventions for cases not (yet) covered by IEC 60617-12 and IEC 60617-13@ but these conventions were found to be lacking when creating symbols for existing devices. Those conventions will be proposed to be introduced in IEC 60617-12 and IEC 60617-13@ but are already given in this report to provide help to symbol developers as early as possible.Finally@ in some cases@ this report summarizes information spread over several IEC publications and which therefore may be hard to find.
