Equipment Technology and Operations for Wastes and Recyclable Materials Facilities for the Processing of Commingled Recyclable Materials — Safety Requirements
This American National Standard is applicable to all persons who design, manufacture, assemble, modify, operate, clean, maintain, service, or repair material recovery facilities (MRFs) which engage in receiving, storing, and processing commingled recyclable materials which have been previously collected orotherwise diverted from the solid waste stream. This standard does not apply to scrap processingfacilities (North American Industry Classification system code number 42193, formerly Standard IndustrialClassification number 5093), unless the scrap processing facility operates a MRF, which MRF would thenbe subject to this standard. The safety requirements are divided into 7 sections and are applicable as described in 1.1.1 through1.1.3.1.1.1 Sections 1 through 3 provide general information and definitions and shall apply to all materialrecovery facilities (MRFs) covered by this standard.1.1.2 Sections 4 through 6 provide for physical plant, processing machinery and mobile equipmentrequirements that shall apply to both new and existing MRFs.1.1.3 Section 7 provides for safety programs and safety requirements that shall apply to both new andexisting MRFs.
