This part of BS 598 describes analytical test methods to be carried out under laboratory test conditions on samples of bituminous mixtures.
The test methods described in this part of BS 598 are not applicable to mastic asphalts; methods for testing these materials are described in BS 5284.
Test methods for bituminous materials made with modified binders are outside the scope of this standard. Experience has shown that use of the methods described in this standard will only provide an approximate binder content for such mixtures.
NOTE It may be possible to obtain accurate binder content results by use of an adjustment factor for insoluble matter based on information provided by the modified binder supplier.
