This specification covers a corrosion and heat resistant steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate. These products have been used typically for parts requiring both corrosion and heat resistance up to 1600 °F (871 °C), but usage is not limited to such applications. At elevated temperatures, strength of this steel is slightly higher than, and oxidation resistance is similar to, that of 18-8 type steels. Certain design and processing procedures may cause these products to become susceptible to stress-corrosion cracking; SAE ARP 1110 recommends practices to minimize such conditions.
