Scope

This International Standard specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system and gives guidance for its use to enable an organization to provide safety and health by preventing work-related injury and impairment of health and by proactively improving its OH&S performance. workplace. This International Standard applies to any organization that wishes to: improve health and safety, eliminate hazards and minimize OH&S risks (including system deficiencies), and take advantage of OH&S opportunities by establishing, implementing and maintaining an OH&S management system , and address nonconformities with the OH&S management system related to its activities. This International Standard helps an organization achieve the intended outcomes of its OH&S management system. According to the organization's occupational health and safety policy, the expected results of its occupational health and safety management system include: a) continuous improvement of occupational health and safety performance; b) compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and other requirements; c) realization of occupational health and safety objectives. This International Standard is applicable to organizations of any size, type and activity. It applies to occupational health and safety risks under the control of the organization, which must take into account factors such as the environment in which the organization operates, the needs and expectations of the organization's workers and other interested parties. This standard neither specifies specific occupational health and safety performance criteria nor provides design specifications for occupational health and safety management systems. This International Standard enables an organization to integrate other aspects of health and safety, such as worker welfare and/or well-being, with its OH&S management system. This standard does not address issues other than risks to workers and other relevant interested parties, such as product safety, property damage or environmental impact. This standard can be used in whole or in part to systematically improve occupational health and safety management. However, a statement of conformity to this International Standard can only be accepted if all the requirements of this International Standard are included in the organization's OH&S management system and are fully met.
