Scope
This document specifies requirements and methods for eliminating hazards or reducing risks in the design of the following types of metal-cutting lathes and turning centers. --- Category 1: Manually controlled lathes without numerical control functions. --- Class 2: Manually controlled lathes with limited numerical control functions. --- Class 3: CNC lathes and turning centers. --- Category 4: single-spindle or multi-spindle automatic lathes. Note 1: See 3.4 for more detailed information on machine tool classification, and see 3.3 for mandatory and optional configurations of operating modes. Note 2: The requirements of this document are generally applicable to all types of lathes. If some requirements apply only to a certain type of lathe, which type of lathe has been clearly indicated. Note 3: Hazards from other metal cutting processes (such as grinding and laser processing) are described in other standards (see References). The important risk factors listed in Chapter 4 of this document also apply to auxiliary equipment integrated with the machine tool (such as: workpiece, tool and workpiece clamping device, loading and unloading equipment and chip removal device). This document also applies to machine tools or turning units integrated into automatic production lines, because the hazards and risks arising in this situation are similar to machine tools in a stand-alone state. This document contains essential safety information provided by the manufacturer to the user. See Figure 2 in GB/T 15706-2012, which graphically illustrates the responsibilities between the manufacturer and the user regarding operational safety. The user's responsibility is to detect certain hazards (such as: fire and explosion) and minimize the critical risk factors associated with them (such as: whether the central control exhaust device is working properly). Where other processing (milling, grinding, etc.) is involved, this document only mentions the basic content of safety requirements; see references for more details. This document applies to machines manufactured after the date of publication.
